The Phoebe Omlie Award

This scholarship is presented in recognition of Phoebe Jane Fairgrave Omlie (November 21, 1902 – July 17, 1975) who was the first female to receive an FAA aircraft mechanic’s license in 1927. Phoebe helped show the world that women were just as capable as men in repairing and maintaining aircraft. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt considered Phoebe Omlie to be “one of eleven women whose achievements make it safe to say the world is progressing”.
Awards in the amount of $500-$5000 may be used towards the purchase of tools or school tuition.

There are six awards, each providing the recipient with two (2) vouchers to cover costs for the general, airframe, and/or powerplant written tests required for mechanic certifications. Vouchers are good for one year from date of issuance. Value of each award is $350.

Eligibility
To be eligible for any award, applicants must be enrolled in an FAA part 147 school (or foreign equivalent). Participation as a competitor in the Aerospace Maintenance Competition is not a requirement for eligibility, but will be a consideration made by the selection committee.

Applications will be reviewed by TechForce and the Aerospace Maintenance Council’s Scholarship Committee. Awards will be announced and presented at the AMC award ceremony on April 11, 2024 in Chicago.

- A current transcript,
- Two letters of recommendation, and
- A minimum 250 word essay on the candidate's career ambitions, and the importance of Phoebe Omlie's contributions to aviation.
